Duan Zhengqu’s solo exhibition “A Heavenly Life” will open at Nature Art Centre on March 23, 2025. The exhibition will last from March 23 to June 29. This is also the first significant exhibition held by Nature Art Centre after its upgrade and adjustment. This exhibition will present the artist’s works in various media including oil paintings, paper, and mixed materials from 2007 to 2022.
Since the 1990s, Northern China has profoundly shaped people’s impressions of Duan Zhengqu. Beginning with his early paintings of residents, landscapes, and folk ballads from Shanbei and later expanding to the cultural landscapes of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Shanxi, Duan has always held a deep, instinctive affection for the northern plateau. However, as an artist, he deliberately maintains a certain distance from reality, preserving space for personal and independent reflection. Particularly since 2015, Duan has recognized that what truly draws him to Shanbei is its inherent sense of mystery. This realization allowed the heroic and realist elements prominent in his early work to fade gradually, evolving instead into sincere and personal expressions of his individual experiences and observations of the land.
